You're invited to an exploding party

Ah it’s a strange old thing, time. Even though it’s the 23rd of April at 2 Pm Eastern time, 7 PM in the UK, when Mushroom FM management gets so desperate for content that the Mosen Explosion comes on, it will in fact be the 24th of April in New Zealand.

It just so happens that the 24th of April will be exactly one year since my last birthday, so I guess that means it’s time for another one. And I couldn’t think of anything better to do than to get up very early on my birthday so I can have an on-air party with you in attendance.

Looking as good as we sound. Announcing our new logo

We love it when all the feedback comes in about how good Mushroom FM is sounding these days. Thank you.

And today, we're unveiling a shiny new logo that's worthy of our output.

Whenever we tweet and post to Facebook, and whenever you visit our website, you'll be greeted by our new logo, a stylish looking Mushroom FM with the two o's in Mushroom looking like button mushrooms. Yum!

Thanks to Steve, the sometimes sidekick for the Snowman, for lending his professional expertise.

French Composers continue to live on Viva

Hello all-
I hope you can join me on Sunday morning at 8am Eastern time or Tuesday at 8pm local time in New Zealand.
This week on Viva, the classical music show, we continue a journey begun last week with the work of Claude Debussy. French composers continue to live with recordings by Poulenc, Faure and Satie. As well as one big work by Debussy, Sonata for flute, viola and harp.

See you then.

Aladdin Records part 2 this week on The Juke In The Back

The Juke In The Back” focuses on the “soul that came before rock n’ roll,” the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.

The Richter Scale, Starting This Friday!

There are many great Rock Bands whose first albums are widely considered to be their best. Meat Loaf’s Bat out of Hell, The Doors’ eponymous album, Guns N' Roses’ Appetite for Destruction, etc. All these artists had more hits, but they never quite reached the lofty peaks they summited with their debut albums.

This Friday you can tune into the very first episode of The Richter Scale, Live on Mushroom FM. Will this be the best episode of The Richter Scale there will ever be? Gee, I sure hope not, but it’s probably worth tuning in just in case.

On A Cuppa at the Mosens, have your say on parenting when blind

It’s the most important job anyone can have, and, blind or not, there is no shortage of tips, tricks and opinions on how to do it right.

Recently, we featured a blind parents’ panel discussion on a highly-downloaded episode of The Blind Side Podcast. On that podcast, we promised an episode of A Cuppa at the Mosens, where listeners could phone in and share their experiences of being a blind parent. That episode is this week.

Don't miss all the great new shows coming to Mushroom FM

Introduction from Jonathan Mosen

In the middle of August 2016, Mushroom FM switched to a format showcasing what in my view are the best four decades for popular music, the 1950s through to the 1980s.

As someone who has been a program director and commercial radio, I know that format changes are risky. Then again, I've learned that most of the truly significant things in life can't be had without risk.

It’s Easter Time in the Shed.

On the Mosen Explosion, the biggest explosion of them all

What a blast it was to receive such a positive response to last week’s show which celebrated the great Tom Lehrer’s 89th birthday. And yes, I use the word “blast” in the context of this promo most deliberately! It’s nice to know so many of the Mushroom Crowd appreciates his irreverent humour and wit, along with his musical and literary genius.

One of the songs we played on last week’s show is an old favourite of mine, a song about nuclear annihilation done in the style of a rousing gospel hymn, called “We will all go together when we go”.
