Join me and have your say on this Weekend’s Mosen At Large as we talk so-called “cancel culture”, the state of the screen reader industry and a range of tech issues

Kia ora Mosen At Largers.

I’m very grateful that we have plenty of people sharing a range of perspectives on a variety of issues this weekend.

We’ll continue to discuss some of the issues that have been occupying our minds in recent weeks.

We’ll also be discussing what some people call cancel culture. Due to JAWS not yet speaking download status in the most recent Microsoft Edge, and my reluctance to use the Chrome browser because Google makes us all their product, I took another look at the Brave browser and like it a lot. But a listener is asking if I should be using it because its founder has donated large sums of money to anti-gay marriage causes, something I personally find abhorrent. I had a long, hard think about this and have some views to share, which will hopefully encourage a respectful and considered conversation.

Brian Hartgen is joining me on Mosen At Large this week. Brian has been developing JAWS scripts of exceptional quality for years, and a few years ago founded his own business, Hartgen Consultancy which offers scripting for individuals in the workplace as well as his commercial scripts and audio tutorials. Brian’s one of those people we think of as having always been around, so for those who don’t know his history, we’ll talk about how he got into writing JAWS scripts and how easy he thinks it is for others to learn. I’ll talk to Brian about what’s new with his products, but I’ll also talk with him about the state of screen reading today. If Narrator comes out with a powerful scripting solution putting a job-ready screen reader on every PC, will he develop scripts for it? And why doesn’t he do stuff for NVDA? It’s a thought-provoking interview and as always, your thoughts are very welcome.

As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.

If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.

Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.
