Rubber Soul Gets the Deluxe Treatment, and The Mosen Explosion Celebrates on Release Day

It's Jonathan Mosen, and I'm excited about another of my Beatles specials.

On Friday, October 2, The Beatles release a brand-new Special Edition of Rubber Soul, and The Mosen Explosion marks the occasion with a two-hour celebration of one of the greatest albums ever made.

I'll take you through every song from the original 14-track UK album in the stunning new stereo mix by Giles Martin and Sam Okell. You will also hear the two songs Capitol used in the American release that had already been used elsewhere, plus both sides of the single that hit the shops the same day in 1965, "Day Tripper" and "We Can Work It Out".

For many of the songs, I'll play you a newly uncovered demo or outtake first, so you can hear the song take shape in the studio before you hear the finished record. Listen to the funky instrumental backing track of "Drive My Car" before the vocals went on. Hear "In My Life" before its famous middle section existed, and then hear something never released until now: George Martin's abandoned Hammond organ attempt at the solo. Find out how he solved the problem with a piano, a tape machine running at half speed, and a stroke of genius that produced one of the most recognizable solos in pop music.
